Night-Vision Dovetail Mount Compatibility

A dovetail label is only the starting point. A usable headborne night-vision setup depends on the device interface, mount, platform, adjustment range, retention, and balance working together.
Map the complete connection
Identify every interface from the night-vision device to the headborne platform. That may include a device-side dovetail, a mounting arm, the main mount, a shroud or receiving plate, and the platform itself. Compatibility at one connection does not confirm compatibility across the full stack.
Use a five-part checklist
Interface: Verify the dovetail geometry and the manufacturer’s stated device compatibility.
Retention: Confirm that the device locks positively and that release controls cannot be activated accidentally.
Adjustment: Check height, fore-aft travel, tilt, and interpupillary positioning where applicable.
Clearance: Make sure controls, cables, battery packs, and protective equipment do not block movement.
Balance: Evaluate the complete working weight, not only the mount. Counterweight and cable routing can change comfort and stability.
Check the setup in motion
A system that feels acceptable while standing still may shift during walking, kneeling, or rapid head movement. Inspect each lock, confirm that adjustment controls stay set, and verify that the platform maintains position without excessive pressure.
